About Us

3 Generations

It all started with a father and a daughter looking for something to occupy their time on the weekends in 2013. Jason and Bailey started attending Skagit Speedway on almost a weekly basis. Pretty soon, Jason was contemplating why they were there watching and not yet competing on the track themselves. Within a month of that very thought a hornet car appeared and Jason was flying a rookie flag at Skagit Speedway for the first time.

Not far after that Dan started attending the races and helping his brother in the pits, learning the ins and outs of the race community. Jason saw no other way then to twist Dan's wrist and get him into racing as well. The next season Jason purchased another hornet car that would be driven by Dan for a few races that season. The Butenschoen brothers would yet again be competing and putting on their own show within the races.

2020 Cole Butenschoen began his racing career at Skagit Speedway's Quarter Midget Track. Here he raced for 3 consecutive years in 3 different cars. 2 of those years Cole received the sportsmanship award and in 2021 he was awarded the most improved driver, exactly 1yr after his dad had received most improved driver in the modified division.

In 2016 the brothers decided to move classes and purchase a car to share, in the then growing, modified class. They purchased their first car and agreed to let another driver return from retirement and race the car the first night. Unfortunately that night would not go to plan as the car was totaled. This led to the brothers deciding to purchase a second modified car while they proceeded to have the entire chassis rebuilt on the first car.

In 2023 Dan and Joanna decided to purchase a 600 restricted sprint car for their ever-growing son Cole to upgrade to. Cole slid into that car and joined the teams racing at Deming Speedway on Friday nights. Continuing to learn and improve his driving skills.

In 2021 the race team would expand yet again when the brothers decided to purchase a modified and trailer combo from a fellow racer. This is when they would invite Jason's son in law, Austin, to join the driving crew. At this point racing was a family affair and the pits were always full of all 3 generations any given race night.

In April 2024 Dan and Jason, after discussion, decided to start their own company "Butenschoen Racing". Quickly they purchased their first sportsman sprint car. Soon realizing one car wouldn't fill their hopes they purchased a second sporty in June of that same year. Both cars debuted at the track on 7/13/2024 driven by long time Skagit Speedway drivers.
